Tender Slow-Cooked Brisket in Rich Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Tender Slow-Cooked Brisket in Rich Homemade Barbecue Sauce
Recipe:

Ingredients:

3-4 lb beef brisket
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
1 cup homemade barbecue sauce (see recipe below)
Homemade Barbecue Sauce:

1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:

Prepare the Brisket: In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, brown sugar, black pepper, salt, cumin, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it’s well-coated.

Sear the Brisket: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the brisket from the skillet and set aside.

Slow Cook: Place the brisket in a slow cooker. Pour half of the homemade barbecue sauce over the brisket. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

Make the Barbecue Sauce: While the brisket is cooking, make the homemade barbecue sauce. In a saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let the sauce cook for 10-15 minutes, until it thickens slightly. Set aside.

Serve: Once the brisket is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. Slice or shred the brisket, then serve with the remaining homemade barbecue sauce on the side.
